Scrolling through your Instagram feed or YouTube Shorts , you hardly expect to come across a conversation about the prostate 🙂
But precisely so that you can take care of your health in a timely manner, we met with urologist Artem Krivonosov and conducted a short interview.

The doctor explained in simple language and with humor how prolonged sitting affects the male body, testosterone levels, and even heart function.

This topic is important not only for patients, but also for anyone who spends more than six hours a day at the computer .
So let's take a look at why the habit of staying in a chair for hours can silently kill men's health.

1. Inactivity = blood stagnation and potency problems

“To say that men's health is literally 'breaking down' is an exaggeration, but problems definitely appear,” explains doctor Artem Krivonosov.

Constant sitting leads to blood stagnation in the pelvic organs . This leads to poor tissue nutrition, decreased testosterone production, and complaints such as:

  • frequent urination;

  • feeling of incomplete emptying;

  • decreased libido and erectile dysfunction.

A study in the journal Urology (2023) confirms: men who sit for more than 6 hours a day have a 42% higher risk of erectile dysfunction compared to those who regularly get up and move around.

"Office prostatitis": a disease of the modern office

The myth that prostatitis only affects men over 40 has long been debunked.

“My youngest patient with acute prostatitis was 18 years old,” says Artem Krivonosov.

Today, doctors are increasingly talking about the phenomenon of office prostatitis — inflammation or irritation of the prostate gland caused by inactivity and prolonged sitting .

How does this happen?

While sitting, the vessels of the small pelvis are compressed , disrupting blood circulation and the outflow of venous blood.
Tissue hypoxia and chronic inflammation occur, even without infection.
This leads to symptoms similar to prostatitis:

  • aching pain in the lower abdomen or perineum;

  • frequent urge to urinate;

  • feeling of pressure when sitting;

  • decreased libido and unstable erection.

The prostate is like a battery: if you don't use it, it dies.

The prostate gland produces a secretion that "activates" sperm and converts testosterone into its active form, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) .

“When a man doesn’t move, doesn’t have a regular sex life, the prostate literally “falls asleep.”
"Testosterone drops, desire disappears, ejaculate quality deteriorates," the doctor adds.

According to Harvard Health , regular physical activity increases testosterone levels by 15–25% , even without a gym.
But a sedentary lifestyle can reduce it in just a few weeks.

What the research says

One of the few studies that accurately measured the risks was
"The Study About Physical Activity for Subjects With Prevention of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (Lee et al., 2014)"

Research results:

  • Men who sat for more than 7 hours a day had a 72% higher risk of developing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH);

  • Even moderate activity (walking, stretching, household chores) significantly improved the condition of the genitourinary system.

A laptop on your lap is not the best idea

Scientists from Fertility and Sterility (2022) found that overheating the scrotum can reduce sperm activity by 40%.
So it's better not to keep your laptop on your lap and not to overuse heated seats in your car - this is a simple rule that will help you avoid problems.

How to prevent "office prostatitis"

  1. Change your body position every 40–50 minutes.

  2. Work standing for 1.5–2 hours a day —this can be easily done with a height-adjustable desk .

  3. Walk at least 30 minutes a day.

  4. Drink enough water - it improves circulation and kidney function.

  5. Do not ignore preventive visits to the urologist , even if nothing bothers you.

Conclusion

A sedentary lifestyle gradually turns off male energy: testosterone decreases, blood circulation worsens, and the first symptoms of BPH or prostatitis appear.
And movement, on the contrary, launches all processes.

“Guys, don’t be afraid of the urologist. And don’t sit for 10 hours.
Get up, move, and everything will be fine,” Artem Krivonosov concludes.

So if your work involves working in front of a monitor, take care not only of your equipment, but also of yourself.
A height-adjustable desk is not just comfort, it's part of men's health prevention.
